Pulse grenade is a roughly hexagonal device that was used as hand-held explosive during the Great Race War. Alongside other weapons, a number of them were secretly manufactured prior to the war and then distributed across Midgård at the onset of the conflict. The explosive was primed by pulling two halves of the chassis' away from each other. Three quick 'beeps' would then indicate an imminent explosion.

Due to a complex design, the original pulse grenades were used almost exclusively by the Matriarchate loyalists. Soon however, the other competing factions would begin producing their own variations.

// History - Pulse Grenade

Grenades were first used during the Battle of Midgård.

Niflheim Glacier is Thyra's southernmost polar region. It is the most dangerous and uninhabitable realm of the world. Plains of ice, chasms and treacherously windless environment are covered by an unnaturally cold layer of mist. As such, only the most daring explorers have ever set one foot upon it. And only by wearing a specialized protective gear, do they have any hope of surviving it. Random caves offer a seeming amount of protection, but also risk an exposure to another kind of danger.

Niflheim Glacier is not only lethal by its environment. Its local fauna and those that have learned to survive on the nature's conditions, also present a danger. The largest of these predators is the colossal gryphon, which eats everything in its sight. The mysterious realm is apt in spreading various legends, such as feral canine tribes ja mythical "Guardians" alike.

Jarnvidr Iron Woods is Thyra's largest woodland realm. It is situated between the Spelheim desert and the Fensalir Evermire. Mostly populated by the Nagai snake-folk, the trees of Jarnvidr easily rise to the height of hundreds of meters. These tree create a nearly impenetrable barrier at its canopy.

The ground level of the great woods is overrun by roots and near perpetual darkness. This creates a perfect habitat for her multitude of predators. For this reason, the Nagai have built their dwellings either entirely underground or to the safety of the strong treeline branches.

Matriarchate Civil Forces are hastily organized militia teams. Originally, they were established during the opening of the Battle of Midgård. These loose formations were created as an interim solution towards an organized military, and to flood the city with armed loyalists. Due to this upbringing, the militias lack any formal combat training. However, they are still eager combatants and should not be underestimated.

Matriarchate Civil Forces gear is a mix of different garbs. For instance, these include protective vests, street wear and headgear. The militia lacks standard weapons and as such, they tend to use what is readily available. In addition, they are supplied from the weapon caches hidden throughout Midgård. In other words, hidden inside the out-of-use medical capsules.

The individual militias often strike out on their own. Therefore, they tend to dismiss the more 'rival' parts of the command structure. Above all however, the matriarch's direct orders are always obeyed to the letter.
